Over 5,400 Pounds of cantaloupes in Michigan are being recalled for listeria samples.

According to FDA, Heeren Brothers Produce is recalling the distributed cantaloupes from between July 23rd and July 26th.

The produce company warned retailers about the listeria after an FDA Routine sample contained the bacteria.

The Listeria bacteria can prove fatal to children, the elderly, or anyone with a weak immune system.

Symptoms of Listeria include severe headache, nausea, stiffness, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

According to a report from WXYZ, the supplier is based in Grand Rapids, and the recall affects ‘Athena’ Cantaloupes.

Consumers with questions can contact the Heeren brothers produce at 616.452.2101 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
